James Justin & Co: hometown folks that are full of soul! That previous sentence is what I would exclaim if someone asked me to shout a short description of James Justin & Co. I might also go with: “They sound like a really great beard!” Which, to me, is the perfect way to wrap up the 2013 season of Friday Cheers.
The Infamous Stringdusters - “Head Over Heels” @ Neptune Theater, Seattle, 5-11-13
Well guys, this is it. This week will be the last Friday Cheers show of the season….starring The Infamous Stringdusters (pictured below),everyone’s favorite grass band. Though centered in Charlottesville, these guys make us proud to be Virginians with every pick and grin. Check out their rendition of the traditional “Head Over Heels” as the band members each take a quick turn at soloing.
Win a pair of tickets to Friday Cheers this week! E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject “Friday Cheers” by Thursday at noon. One winner will be chosen randomly. Literally, I write the names on pieces of paper and draw. Good luck!
Opening for the Stringdusters are James Justin & Co., one of RVA’s busiest touring roots bands. When James isn’t on the road, he’s at home with his wife and newborn baby, TCB at their dairy farm. Check out “Wolf Creek Pass” and ignore the dude blabbing in the beginning:

The audio kind of craps out at some points, but this is the best sound, most recent, and best video I could find of the current lineup.
The Pimps of Joytime - “San Francisco Bound”
The Pimps of Joytime will most definitely put on a great show and will get you ready for KDTU! See you there!
Win Tickets to Friday Cheers this week starring Kishi Bashi and Lake Street Dive!
Kishi Bashi - 151a
You may have heard of K Ishibashi aka Kishi Bashi as a member of the touring bands of Regina Spektor and Of Montreal. Perhaps you have seen the Windows 8 commercial and heard his song, “Bright Whites” Bashi was also a founding member of Jupiter One.
Kishi Bashi is from Norfolk where his parents were professors at ODU. He creates sweeping, orchestral synth and string soundscapes and then croons with the adorableness of Paul McCartney. He has a delicate voice in quieter moments, but his vox grows with intensity as the songs do.
Win a pair of tickets to see Kishi Bashi at Friday Cheers this week!
E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org by Thursday at noon, and one person will be chosen randomly to win tix. Just be sure to put some sort of “Friday Cheers giveaway” description in the subject.
Lake Street Dive will also be on the bill, and this band from Brooklyn is a four-piece with multi-part vocal harmonies and an eclectic mix of instruments. Check out their cover of George Michael’s “Faith” on Sidewalk Sessions:
